Elana Gordon is a reporter at WHYY in Philadelphia and a founding member of the station's weekly health and science show, The Pulse. She covers everything from confusing medical bills to the region's drug crisis to 19th century horse thieves. She loves editing sound and seeing how close she can get her recorder to an MRI machine. If you can't find her, she's probably lost in some old medical library.
Along with WHYY, you can find her work on 99% Invisible, Criminal, NPR, The Atlantic, PRI's The World, Kaiser Health News and Here & Now. In September 2017, she was a featured sound artist at the Megapolis Audio Festival.
Before Philly, Elana was a reporter at KCUR in Kansas City. Prior to radio, she worked at one of the nation's largest free health clinics. She holds a dual degree in music and political science from Barnard College. It was there that she first caught the radio bug as an occasional late night music host for WKCR's In All Languages.
